Poverty at an alarming rate in Ebonyi State
The truth is that the poverty in Ebonyi State in greater measure is caused by government. It's not absolutely that of Umahi. It predates ages past. Nature blessed Ebonyi soil with varieties of solid mineral deposits and oil. Every community in Ebonyi has one or two mineral deposits. This includes quarry. Our rivers have varieties of sand that can rarely be found elsewhere.
But what has government done to ensure gradual and simultaneous exploration of these mineral deposits to reduce unemployment and poverty? Nothing! This is from 1999 till date. Nigercem in Nkalagu alone has what it takes to lift half of Ebonyi State from the cesspool of penury if put into use. Can anyone tell me why that company has remained operationally motionless? It's the failure of leadership and lack of political willpower to do things right.
I will continue to say it that there's no germane basis for our soaring poverty indices. We have land in million acreages. Very fertile earth and the muscular wherewithal to plough the earth with the use of technological farm implements. I repeat, there's no community in Ebonyi that doesn't have the quantity of mineral deposits in its soil enough to lift the people from the floor of poverty. But State Government's policies don't allow the harnessing of such.
Why is Nigercem not working up till today? It's simple: Government is afraid citizens might be economically stable such that nobody could be available for political slavery. They are comfortable with what they collect from Abuja every month. Our poverty status in Ebonyi ought not to be had government prioritized the erasion of poverty from the state. Once our government picks interest in the transparent exploration of these mineral deposits scattered everywhere in Ebonyi, that's the time the cleaning process of the South East poverty capital inscription on us will begin.
